Introduction to Pafcal
Pafcal is a high-tech soilless plant media co-developed by Toyota Motors and Suntory company (who makes nice Whisky and other beverages). Pafcal was originally invented to grow Whisky's key ingredient - malt - but was later created into a new business venture for aesthetic greenery such as vertical green wall system and hobbyist plants such as terrarium (using powdered pafcal).
Owing to its technology, Midorie's Pafcal is fast gaining popularity for lifestyle seekers who demand the best in life, such as clean environment, odour and bacteria-free plant media, and all the benefits of nature without the fuss.
Key Benefits about Pafcal:
- Last for about 10 years without disintegrating, and about 5 years when planted. If plants are constantly placed under the hot sun, the lifespan of Pafcal may become 2-3 years instead.
- Pafcal is sterile and bug-free. However, bugs and/or mould may be subsequently introduced if surrounding plants are infected. If that happens, you may use non-toxic spray-on pesticide available in major supermarkets and plant nurseries. Our e-shop will carry such products from July 2020 onwards.
- Your pafcal is designed to absorb only 30% of water, leaving 70% space for air. Such composition is optimal for plant growth, as the roots will be strong (white or light yellow shows your plant is healthiest). However if you try to soak your Pafcal in water or manually press it to soak up more water, there is a very high chance your plant's roots will rot, as visible by its dark brown or black colour). Hence, let your Pafcal absorb water natuarlly by spraying on the top or bottom, for it to work its magic.
General Care Instructions
We've supplied a variety of plant species. As a general rule of thumb, all our plants are sunlight-shy (unless otherwise mentioned below/by your own research), however do still place them near a light source (i.e. window, or at shaded area of balcony). If there's no luxury of space, you may consider placing them near an artificial light source (i.e. under LED or fluorescent lighting). The duration of light feeding is around 8-12 hours a day.
It's good to strengthen the roots by allowing the Pafcal to completely dry up for 1-2 days between watering cycle. Do not mix Pafcal with soil; Pafcal is designed to be the only plant media for most types of plant.
Also, lookout for exclusive discounts for all Busy Bees Singapore employees, as a way to thank you for patronizing Midorie Singapore.
